budgie-chan:

Hey guys!

So basically I am really strapped for cash right now. College costs have been KILLER and I am currently unable to find work.

That’s where YOU cool people come in! Need a gift for a special someone? Well, how about something homemade and specialized, one of a kind, if you will.

I can help. I have been crocheting and sewing for over a decade now, and I would LOVE to help you. The costs listed below are negotiable, and shipping will be decided based on number and size of item(s) purchased.

Warning: Lots of pictures of really cool stuff! Please give it a look and a reblog so that others may see it!

Anonymous sent: Dear Xseed, First I just really want to thank you for well doing ur best in making Story of Seasons the best that it can be I really appreciate it. &, I'm really excited in it. I'm just disappointed in one thing, Marian. Is Marian a boy or girl? &And, if he's a boy can u make him a girl, if that's okay? & if not can he not have a boyfriend, its a bit offensive 2 me as a Christian, but I want 2 be able to play the game without compromising my beliefs, so whatever u can do is fine thanks God bless

hatsuu:

Marian does not distinctly refer to himself with female pronouns in the dialogue we’ve seen so far in the Japanese; he’s male and uses male pronouns (others use male pronouns when referring to him as well). We discussed this quite a bit so we could reflect his character as accurately as possible while still making sure to keep true to his identity. I’m not completely sure of his sexual orientation or if he’s seeing anyone, since I haven’t really discussed that too much with any of the translators outside of asking how he speaks in Japanese to make sure we use correct pronouns. I don’t normally dig that deep into the story and characters until localization is done and we have a playable build. However, we will never, ever change a character’s sexual orientation to suit anyone’s religious beliefs, as there is nothing offensive or shameful about being heterosexual, homosexual, pansexual, asexual, or any other kind of sexual orientation. The same goes for sex or gender; whatever is most comfortable to the character is most comfortable for us. If any character in the game were of any specific sexual orientation or clearly wanted to be referred to with pronouns not typically reflective of their biological sex in the Japanese, it would be the same in the North American version as well with no toning down whatsoever.

I’ve never been prouder to be a fan of this series and I am so, so thrilled XSEED is taking over this new chapter of Harvest Moon/Bokumono.

Oops forgot to attach the image at first! The palettes stopped at 18 so I picked 14 cos the 4 was kind of looped like a 9, hope that’s alright!

Starting a batch of these now and trying to re-teach myself to draw, hopefully will improve as I go!

I take things way too literally, as usual.
Pasquale is seen here in his Sunday finest, his precious messed up little polydactyl toes displayed with the anger that will surely come back to haunt me at 3 am when his green eyes stare down at me with a finality that says I finally went too far.

I still haven’t figured out a solution.

Just because you don’t think something isn’t yaoi doesn’t mean you think yaoi is bad. There are a lot of conventions in the genre that TJ&A doesn’t fulfill. There is nothing wrong with that. Even in Japan yaoi/BL is a separate thing from other forms of same-sex romance fiction. Neither is better than the other. They are just different forms of storytelling.

I don’t think it would’t be disrespectful to tell someone you don’t think it’s yaoi. And if they did feel disrespected, well then they clearly need to get their priorities in order because last I checked having a differing opinion on the genre of a comic is a pretty inconsequential thing.

Yeah, the trick would be to say “please don’t call it yaoi” in a way that doesn’t attempt to keep the label at arm’s length. If yaoi weren’t already a genre people like to shit on in a gendered way, this wouldn’t be such a dilemma for me :\

I can definitely see the problem. It too easily smells of “I’m not one of THOSE people” (where “those people” = anyone who supports media catering to a marginalised and underappreciated group). When most people have a strong gut reaction to something, it becomes impossible to assert something in a neutral way.

I would (and probably will, with my own comic) just smile and nod in most situations. As long as they use “yaoi” to mean “gay stuff”, it’s close enough to the truth, and “gay stuff” could definitely use some more positive, nonapologetic spotlight.

But it is a toughie, and neither is a perfect solution.

Either way, E.K.’s experiences and analysis is most of the reason why I’ve dialed WAY back with critique of “girly” things. Sure, there are many problems with many genres, but let’s not pretend that they aren’t already disproportionately discussed. I’d rather be a force of balance.

Nailed it.
I’m starting to think there’s not going to be a solid, one-size-fits-all answer to this problem…

I really like this discussion! EK’s posts about stuff like this here on tumblr have really informed a lot of the way I think about genre & western comics with a same-sex focus. (I bolded the part genreunsavvy said that really hit close to home. Me likey!)

I think this is a symptom of “yaoi” having been The Word people would use to refer to same-sex fiction (esp visual stuff like comics, and especially male/male) for a long time. But I think also the solution is to just keep producing content until eventually new words are born/conceived of naturally that fit your genre more specifically.

Plus then that has the added benefit of more content being out there, which is also hella rad.

Anyway, food for thought!

Sup dudes, we are moving! On account of needing to put quite a few boxes (and a cat) into limited vehicle space, we have a discount for you if you would like to take some merch off our hands!
Until Monday the 28th of April, we’ll be offering 15% off books and prints in our store if you enter the promo code TOYPROMO! I’ve been kind of excited to utilize this bigcartel feature, so if all goes well we’ll probs do more of this kind of stuff in the future too.
Meanwhile, we’re working to have a new 18+ digital comic in the store next week! There’ll be some time following that that we’ll have to put physical orders on hold, but we’ll post that info when we have it.
