
I used to think this way until really recently. Life isn’t like this. People aren’t happy if they’re constantly pushed away, even if they’re loyal to the last. If you feel like you’re the kind of person who always pushes people away, stop doing it. Don’t make that problem about the character of the other person. That’s not fair to them or to yourself. Make it be about you being better than that, about catching yourself in the act, about developing better skills when it comes to how you interact with people. If you don’t do this, you will cycle back into unhappiness forever.
It took being with someone I really wanted to be with to make me realize I needed to stop this way of thinking. Life is too short to deny yourself what you feel.
